The Dinosaur Museum

Grandma and grandpa took 7 grandsons to the Dinosaur Museum at Thanksgiving Point. We walked in the door and the boys exploded in every direction to checkout the displays in the foyer.

Wow! Look at that dinosaur!

Look how big that dinosaur is... and look how big that Pterodactyl is!!

What big teeth you have Mr. Dinosaur!

Dinosaur questions from each of the boys echoed through the hall. I could tell we found something that would hold their attention for a few hours and hopefully create a memory together with them. We got our hands stamped and down the hall we walked as we heard dinosaur sounds through the speakers around us.

Our first stop before we got to the dinosaurs was the sound room. A place to explore and learn about sound. These guys already know how to make noise, but they were about to learn more.

Todd was the first on the drum set. He had the headset on and he played the drums until we had to move on to other displays.

This was a quiet chamber to try to walk across a gravel pit and not make any noise... they never did! Mostly because they couldn't stop talking (shouting).

More headphones and sounds to discover.

Once we had exhausted the sound room we started the dinosaur experience.

Somehow the boys were fascinated by this archeologist breaking rocks in an effort to discover fossils.

A fish tank with monsters in the back that were stalking the smaller fish in the front.

Finding fossils in the ancient sea bed.

Scotty checked out the prehistoric sea life. He was quick to grab my hand when we walked through the tropical jungle with snakes.

I got them together for a quick picture so if one of them got lost I could provide the search party with a picture.

The main display room was filled with dinosaurs and their noises. We added some noises of our own.

This dinosaur was about 120 feet long.

Smaller dioramas were easier for the little guys to relate to.

Everywhere you looked there were dinosaurs!

The boys dug up bones in a fossil bed and carried the bones across the room to recreate a dinosaur on the magnetic board.

 Dinosaurs and boys at play.

The sandbox was a big hit with the boys.

Building a dam from sand helps them understand hydro-dynamics... right?

 Big feet and big bellies!

 Nice set of teeth!

Bryson was dwarfed and awed at the size of this big dinosaur.

  James was too.

Despite the spectacle of all the dinosaurs, they all turned to the computer screens.

Parker studied out this dinosaur on display.

Now on to do a little field work in the sand pits.

Carefully removing the sand from the fossilized bones.

Parker grabs another brush and goes back to work in the pit.

Bryson found more bones on the other side of the pit.

After several hours of learning, exploring and play we left our ancient friends to play by themselves as we went home with great memories and a nice hot lunch of macaroni and cheese and then a party for Brett and Scott..
