The official San Diego greeter was there to give us the official greeting... but he missed.
The Bird of Paradise were out in all their beauty.
Talk about beauty, Mom and the ocean.
The Del Coronado hotel bring back great memories.
This beautiful movie star let me take her picture at the Del
This old guy kept getting in the way of my shots of the Del.
We enjoyed our time at the Del and now it's time to go back over the bridge and move up the road and see "Old Towne" and the Mormon Battalion museum.
Mormon Battalion Historic Site

Mom in a life-size covered wagon.
During the tour the missionary called a young volunteer up and dressed him in the trappings the soldiers wore on the long march.
Guns that were carried by the battalion members.
A Book of Mormon that was carried on the march.
Some of the soldiers had brick making skills and taught the people in San Diego how to fire their bricks and then helped them build a courthouse with the bricks that they made.
A pump was a big step ahead of dipping a bucket in a well to draw water. The Mormon soldiers used the fired brick to line the well and install a water pump.
Some of the soldiers went back to Salt Lake City via the Gold Rush areas by San Francisco. Here the children are taught how to pan for gold like those soldiers.
Just a pan of rocks...

...take a closer look and see if you can find any sparkling gold.
This young man was able to find several pieces of "gold".
We had a great time at the Mormon Battalion Historic Site and then walked down the street a couple of blocks and had a tasty Mexican lunch. After lunch we walked through San Diego Old Towne and looked through the period decorated shops and museums along the way back to the car. Then it was time to leave for "home"... back to Palm Desert and the heat. It was a nice 74 degrees in San Diego, but in the high 80's when we got back at dinner time.
