LAKE POWELL

We were invited by our friends who served their missions in the Middle East, to join them and others that had served there at the same time. Four couples were able to attend and we spent three days together on this houseboat.... four bedrooms and all the food and fun you can take in.

Off we went on our first adventure to Forgotten Canyon, about 20 minutes away from the Bullfrog marina.

You turn right and take the second left to see the ancient Anasazi petroglyphs.

We made it to a shallow spot on the shore and jumped into the knee deep water and climbed up a red sandstone cliff to see the ancient petroglyphs.

There in the distance we could see the glyphs waving a welcome greeting to us.

We climbed the cliff and got close enough to make a connection with these ancient people through their art. I don't know how long ago they lived or much  about them, but it was nice to see they looked like us today.

A picture with and without me in it. The host couple stayed with the boat while we explored the site on our own.

A view of the river and canyon from the ancient site.

We went down the canyon a ways and jumped into the cool water of the Colorado River. It was a welcome cool down because the air was in the upper 90's.

We wove our way through a myriad of canyon mazes, exploring caves, slot canyons and finally came out into the main channel and motored on back to the marina and the houseboat.

We got back and unloaded the boat and had a great lunch, talked and played games the rest of the evening. We had a rain storm in the late afternoon and it cooled things off a little bit. The winds with the storm made it feel like we were really on a boat. I still feel the gentle rocking of the boat sitting at my desk tonight.

The next day we jumped back into the boat for another adventure-filled ride. We first went to see sandstone hills, and then on to see a dry waterfall and swim in the lake.

When it rains water pours over this rock ledge into the lake. We went swimming under the falls area.

We had a great time laughing and talking while keeping cool in this beautiful secluded canyon, all our own.

We got back into the boat and went for a 30 minute ride to another great spot... a slot canyon. We took the boat all the way to the end and got out to explore.

Andy stayed with the boat while the rest of us went for a walk through the sand-filled canyon.

The narrow canyon reminded us of the canyon that led us to the Petra Treasury in Jordan.

My photo of the group.

Photo with me.

Two river rats... having a great time.

Back in the boat, out the slot canyon and off to Halls Canyon for a root beer float.

We had a great root beer float, cooled down and ready for our travel back to the marina.

It was a brrrright sunshiny day... everyday!

And back to the houseboat for more fun, food and games.

The next day we spent the morning together, packed and headed home. It was a great get-away with our dear friends.
