We knew the story of Tito. He came from Ghana to Egypt to work, but overstayed his visa and was put in jail. He suffered great persecution in prison, but ultimately won the confidence of many of the inmates and importantly the respect of the guards. He was released from prison with the moral and financial support of many of his friends and returned to Ghana. He and Mahmud Labinto, counselor in the Ghana Accra Mission, are working together in a foundation established by a prior mission president to improve education, employment and health conditions of the people. They have a 10 month training course and offer micro loans to get their business started. Royalties from Tito's book will go to support the foundation.
We had a delightful time together and brought up Nate, Elder Newbold, serving his mission in Ghana. They said they remembered him and would extend our love and greetings to him when they return. It's amazing the connections you make in the church.

We really enjoyed our time together to hear about Tito's book, the missionary work in Ghana and the great work of their foundation.

John and his wife, Sherie, were a great blessing to us in Egypt. They have a beautiful apartment that we could walk to and enjoy a little bit of heaven... air conditioning, American food, a soft sofa, Wii games and fun conversation. They were so kind and generous to us.Since they live in Layton and traveled back and forth from Egypt to Layton and back we were able to ship a few things home with them as well as bring a few things back from the US to us.

We know a girl from our ward here in San Diego who is going to Accra in May for 3 weeks. She's a nursing student at BYU. We are collecting books, money and other things to send with her! Small world. 8)
