LITTLE GREEN APPLES

These little green crabapples are beautiful ornaments on the trees in the summer and especially against the orange leaves in the fall. But there is a price to pay for their beauty. They need to be picked and the ground under the trees has to be cleaned every year.

This fall we were blessed with a long season of beautiful colors in the back yard even after most of the annuals were cleaned out.

About a week after the leaves fell off we had a perfect day, in the 60's, no wind, and sunny. The time was right to drop those "Little Green Apples" for the season.

In Leavenworth, Washington they pick their apples and carefully pack them into boxes, but in American Fork, Utah we drop the apples and rush them off to the dump. Notice the technique, efficiency and stamina of the AF apple dropper.

This was a picture after I had dropped the apples from the smaller tree and before I dropped the apples from the larger tree. I had the confidence of many years of apple dropping experiences.

Success! Once those "Little Green Apples" are down on the ground you can round them up and put them into specially designed blue trash barrels for delivery to the dump for recycling. Oh the joys of gardening!

The "Little Green Apple" are gone for the season thanks to the annual dropping exercise and the berm is now ready for the winter.

This is the rose that budded just before the snows last week. It was buried in the snow but came out of it and continues to add color and beauty to the back yard. The spirit and beauties of fall continue on for a little longer.
