NRT PREPARATION IN SAN JUAN de MAGUANA

We traveled with Elder and Sister Francom, the humanitarian missionaries in the DR and Dr and Sister Zolinger from Idaho to locate a hotel for the doctors to stay, a restaurant for meals and a training facility. We entered San Juan and stopped at their entry park all done in mosaic. It represented the island of Espana and the struggle for independence. Next we went to several hotels and selected one for the doctors. We were met by a group of shoe shine boys that did our shoes with a smile. After that we went to the hospital to meet with government officials and staff to plan the training. After an hour of
discussions we wen to several chapels and a medical association building to evaluate them as training facilities.
After that we went to a restaurant to see if they would fit our needs for food. We were lucky, they were clean and catered to large groups. As we returned to the van to travel home, we were greeted by two young men that had washed the van and were looking for a little compensation. Elder Francom paid them and then found that they had only washed one side of the van. Live and learn.
We stopped at the local Catholic cathedral  and took a brief tour. The ever present street carts were there selling all of the usual things. This one was selling sugar cane.
