GONZOLO BRANCH

We went to the Gonzolo branch with Elder and Sister Jones. It is about an hour and a half north of Santo Domingo. They work with the branch president and others to help them understand how the church operates. As new members of the church they haven't seen how the different auxillary organizations work.

Elder and Sister Jones are from Portland, Oregon and have been out for about 9 months. Sister Jones teaches piano to all that want to learn. She had several young men stay after church for their lessons.

Here we are in the Gonzolo branch building. We had a wonderful experience meeting the members and hearing of their faithful service and since it was fast Sunday we heard their testimonies. We could feel the Spirit when they shared their faith in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Savior and Redeemer of the world.

Mom visited the Primary while I attended Sunday School. There was a strong desire of the members to be there together to learn the gospel. They enjoyed the hymns and the lessons with the usual church pictures.

The chapel is mostly one room with curtains that draw across the room to separate it into quarters for the auxillary meetings. We had lizards, bees and a big spider come through the chapel but no one moved. The service was all in Spanish so we didn't get much from the words, but we learned a lot from the members love for one another and their dedication to their faith.

After church everyone helped clean up, stack the chairs and leaders met for instruction while children played outside. Sister Jones conducted her piano lessons and we talked with the missionaries and some of the other members that were not involved in meetings. We traveled an hour and a half back home and reflected on our wonderful experience.
