This is the Caribbean Area office in Santo Domingo. The area presidency, finances, welfare, shipping and warehousing is housed at this facility. We started each week with a devotional at 8:30 A.M. and it set a peaceful tone to the workplace all week. The second Tuesday of the month a member of the area presidency gives a devotional. It was a great place to work and get to know the people there. We gave a devotional and mom spoke a little Spanish to start her part. She won their love and attention.
You can see our little cubicle with computers, printer, phones and even post-it sticky notes on the wall. We were comfortable, but it was hard work from 8 - 5 every day and then we checked email at home and fielded calls on the go too.
We loaded trucks with rice, beans, pasta, sardines, tuna, milk, water, tarps, tents, hygiene kits, wheelbarrows, shovels, rope, gloves and a whole lot more, for shipment to Haiti.
We tracked the shipments and totaled their contents and added our shipments to those sent from the US and others purchased in Haiti to give the Presiding Bishopric accurate numbers so when they gave their reports to the First Presidency everything is accurate and complete.
We also found Haitian members in Dominican hospitals and connected them with local priesthood leaders for emotional support, food and help with their medical care.
This is one of many cars we drove to get people to and from the airport, hospitals, and appointments. We drove trucks, SUV's, vans and cars. We made trips Jimani, on the Haiti-Dominican border to make deliveries of people and goods.
